India Highlight Reel!

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for us, and in particular for my recent trip to India, January 1-16! My trip to India went smoothly, and it was a joy to travel and co-labor with my Director, David Bennett from my layover in Paris on January 1st until I left India on January 15th. The conversations I was able to have with Bennett were a personal highlight of the trip for me. I was able to get advice and counsel on topics from family to packing, plans to pitfalls. The flights to our destination went smoothly, and upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised that it was only three and a half hours later in time zones than Romania! This allowed me to keep up with Marie and the family while I was gone. Another blessing was that the Lord provided a young lady from the USA to stay with Marie and help her while I was gone. This was a comfort to Marie while I was away for over two weeks.

In India, Bennett and I stayed with Pastor Bimal and his family. I thoroughly enjoyed my time getting to know the family, and was grateful for their kindness and hospitality. They even taught me how to eat rice properly and politely with my fingers! There was much laughter in the home over the first few days of my time in India. I was able to spend a lot of time with the family, and they became very close friends. They have already been encouraging me to come back with Marie and visit! Pastor Bimal kindly invited me to preach in his church, where he has both Deaf and hearing attending. I preached on Genesis 1:1 and some of the things that it shows us about God! It was interesting to have my sermon interpreted into Nepali and Indian Sign Language. Pastor Bimal, his family, Brother Bennett, and I took the day on Monday to travel on a small train, "The Toy Train," and visited Darjeeling, a famous location up on North East India that is home to world famous tea.

The eight day Deliberate Discipleship Retreat on "Walking with Christ in the Garden of God" went well, and although we didn't cover all the material we had expected to discuss, we covered material that could change their lives and ministries if applied. For me it was a great reminder of essential truths that are easy to neglect.

On the same property as the hotel and conference room we used for the retreat, there was also a school for Lepcha students (a tribe in North East India). I was able to spend some time with several of the students, and with one young man I was able to present the Gospel! It was a blessing to watch God use us, and give favor with different people while we were there. I learned a few Lepcha and Nepali phrases while I was there, and my burden grew for them and for the many Nepali here in Bucharest. There is a need for someone to reach the Lepcha, and for more people to be actively seeking to reach the Nepali here in Bucharest. There is some work that is being done, but please pray for more laborers in both India and Bucharest, Romania.

I am grateful for what God did through us, but I am most grateful for the work God did in me! I watched God lead and guide, expand my view of Him and His work around the world, and saw Him bring areas to light in my life that have been changing or need changed. God gave me some clarity about goals for this year and next as we wrap up our first term, things to pay attention to in our parenting, and areas to strengthen in my walk with Him.

Again, thank you for your love and prayers for us as we prepare for the new addition to the family sometime this month! Pray for Marie to have a healthy final month of pregnancy and for a good delivery. Also, pray that as I get back in language school that the Lord would help me to grasp the concepts thoroughly. Pray for wisdom for us as our babysitter, J., has put in her one month notice as she would like to pursue some more education. Pray for the opportunities that seem to be on the horizon. Most of all, pray that we would walk closely with Christ in the Garden of God and teach others to do the same.
